FAQs: Your Questions Answered

Got questions about Eagle Week? Here are the answers to what parents and scouts ask most, from cost and badges to transportation. Still have questions? Reach out anytime.

When is Eagle Achievement Camp?

Sunday, June 27 to Thursday, July 1, 2027, at Camp Hi-Sierra near Pinecrest Lake.

Who can attend?

Scouts who meet one of these: age 14 or older, First Class rank or higher, or a second-year camper at Second Class rank with Scoutmaster approval.

Does my Scout need to come with a troop?

No. Scouts register on their own, and they can also come with friends or with their troop. Everyone is placed in a provisional troop of 30 to 40 Scouts. Boys and girls are in separate troops, and Scouts from the same home troop stay together.

How many Scouts attend?

The week is limited to the first 175 Scouts.

How do merit badges work?

Each Scout picks five merit badge sessions at registration and gets all five, with no waitlists. Climbing and First Aid take two sessions each. Classes run Monday through Wednesday in five one-hour blocks (9:00, 10:00 and 11:00 AM, 1:30 and 2:30 PM). Open program runs from 3:30 to 5:00 PM.

Which Eagle-required badges are offered only this week?

Citizenship in the Community, Personal Management, Family Life, Emergency Preparedness, Personal Fitness and Cooking.

Can my Scout finish every badge at camp?

Not always. Many badges have prerequisites, and some work has to be done before or after camp. The prerequisite list is attached to the registration page. Personal Fitness, Personal Management and Family Life each require about 90 days of tracking, so Scouts should start them by March 28. The tracking can’t be started at camp.

Can Scouts work on prerequisites without a counselor?

Yes, for most of them. Any requirement that says “with your counselor” has to be done with a counselor, including the tracking plans for Personal Fitness, Personal Management and Family Life. Bring proof that prerequisites are finished, such as a log or a Scoutmaster’s signature or a started blue card.

Can my Scout use open time to finish a partial from another camp?

Generally no. Open program time is for camp activities and for this week’s class work. Send questions about a specific partial to CHS@svmbc.org before camp.

How is advancement reported?

Camp tracks requirements in BlackPug. At the end of the week we can give your troop a report of every requirement each Scout completed and print blue cards.

What does it cost?

Price per Scout (in council / out of council):

Paid in full by Dec. 1, 2026: $725 / $750

Dec. 2, 2026 to March 29, 2027: $825 / $850

Starting March 30, 2027: $900 / $925

The round-trip bus adds $75. Adults are $425, and the supervisory adult role is $275. “Out of council” means Scouts from outside the Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council.

What's included?

Merit badge fees, meals, tent camping and a tie-dye T-shirt.

Is financial help available?

Yes. The council offers camperships for Scouts with financial need.

How do Scouts get to camp?

The bus leaves the San Jose Scout office (1900 The Alameda) Sunday morning, stops for lunch on the way and reaches camp in the early afternoon. Bring a sack lunch or money for fast food, plus water and snacks. The bus gets back to San Jose Thursday afternoon. Families can also drive their Scout to camp. Plan to arrive for check-in Sunday between 1:00 and 3:00 PM.

What should my Scout pack?

Pack like it’s a backpacking trip, in a backpack or shoulder bag, not a duffel. Tents are provided, and a sleeping pad is recommended. Also bring the merit badge book for each class (read it before camp), all prerequisite work and logs, and everything on the standard Camp Hi-Sierra packing list.

What health forms are needed?

Every Scout and adult needs the Annual Health and Medical Record, Parts A, B and C, in CampDoc at least two weeks before camp. Part C is the physical exam. Kaiser physical forms are accepted. Paper forms are not.

What if my Scout is sick before camp?

Please keep them home. Camp is at 5,000 feet and the week is active. Email or call us, because a Scout can sometimes arrive a day late.

My Scout is at Week 1 with their troop. Can they stay over for Eagle Week?

Yes. Scouts can stay Saturday night between the two weeks if their troop’s registered adults (two-deep) stay with them. The cost is $25 per person and names go to CHS@svmbc.org ahead of time.
