  • Setting.<\/b>\u00a0100+ acres of private wilderness at 5,000 feet in the Sierra Nevada, Stanislaus National Forest on all sides, the North Fork Tuolumne River running through camp. Sailing happens on Pinecrest Lake. The night skies are dark enough that we just built an observatory in 2025.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    • Depth.<\/b>\u00a050+ merit badges and programs \u2014 including a 50-foot climbing tower, full shooting sports (archery, rifle, shotgun, black powder, Cowboy Action), aquatics on a real mountain river, welding and blacksmithing at the Foxfire area, STEM, arts, astrophotography, and evening programs like wilderness shelter overnights and an 18-mile bike ride through the forest.<\/li>\n
    • History.<\/b>\u00a0Camp Hi-Sierra has operated continuously since 1949, on ground with a story of its own: Miwok summer dwelling sites, early homesteads, and a working sawmill that logged the valley in the early 1900s \u2014 the mill’s enormous sawdust pile is now the archery range. Three generations of families have attended. Some grandchildren of original 1950s campers are now on staff.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Every troop also gets a dedicated\u00a0troop guide<\/b>: a staff member who meets your group at the flag meadow on Sunday and at every meal staff eat with the Scouts. Solo scouts without a troop attend as provisional scouts, placed in a provisional troop with the same support.<\/p>\n

      First-year scouts come every year.
